About Me

Greetings! My name is Kayla and I am a Vancouver-native, a floundering Canucks fan, and a passionate clinical counsellor who places a heavy emphasis on building meaningful connections with each one of my clients. Other than at the clinic, I can be found enjoying the beach with my family, hitting the slopes with friends, or exploring the beautiful topography that our province has to offer. My Trinidadian heritage shines through my counselling style in that I place a heavy emphasis on building the therapeutic alliance between client and counsellor as well as place great weight on providing a warm, welcoming environment for each one of my clients.

My Personal Journey: Physical Injury and Concussion

My interest and passion for clinical counselling stems from my own personal journey with physical injury - specifically a few run ins with post-concussion syndrome due to athletics and a serious car accident. My rehabilitation journey, allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the mind-body connection as I noted the greatest progress was made when I engaged in mental health support as well as using my education in Kinesiology to practice active rehabilitation.

Clinical Approach

My clinical approach is ultimately rooted in building a personal, empathic connection with each one of my clients. By tailoring my approach to align with your goals, I strive to meet you where you are at and foster an environment where we can allow solutions-focused conversations to occur. Drawing from my background in Kinesiology, some of my clinical counselling specialisations include chronic-pain management, post-concussion treatment, and psychological trauma. Through my extensive experience working in the rehabilitation field, I have had the privilege of connecting with clients of a wide range of cultural, religious, and circumstantial backgrounds, allowing each client's own personal set of values to guide the counselling process.

No topic of concern is “too large” or “too small” to bring forward in the counselling space. With the help of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and an underlying Humanistic approach, we can walk through the counselling process together in a collaborative, compassionate way that promotes both growth and healing.

“The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.”
